Mission: To digitally archive and preserve Indian manuscripts and inscriptions, making it freely and widely accessible to anyone.
Key Objectives:
Preservation: Create high-quality digital masters of fragile, undigitized, and semi-digitized manuscripts.
Accessibility: Develop a robust, user-friendly digital platform (the “Wikipedia for manuscripts”) for global access.
Collaboration: Facilitate scholarly contribution through version control and collaborative editing features, allowing users to submit revisions, metadata, and transcriptions.
Standardization: Establish a systematic, professional, and internationally compliant process for digitization, metadata creation, and long-term storage.
.
B. Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
The project will follow a strict, phased approach across the four organizational pillars.
1. Standard Setting (The “What” and “How” of Digitization)
This phase establishes the non-negotiable technical and scholarly requirements to ensure data integrity and interoperability.
2. Manuscripts and Inscription Curation (The “Source Material” Phase)
This phase addresses the physical status of the manuscripts and inscriptions, and how the project will interact with existing collections.
3. Platform Criteria (The “How” of Delivery)
This pillar focuses on the technical development of the platform, with a strong emphasis on the collaborative “GitHub” model.
4. Funding & Deployment (The “Resources” and “Sustaining” Phase)
This addresses the financial and promotional aspects of the project, driven by the non-profit’s leadership.
